Sliding Into Hades

"...a viscerally stirring and memorable meditation on ever-important themes"
- Backstage

Written by Aaron Henne
Directed by Ron Sossi
Developed with the Koan Ensemble at The Odyssey Theatre

Winner of the 2007 L.A. Weekly Awards for Playwriting and Production of the Year.

Sliding Into Hades, uses the Orpheus myth as a jumping off point for a lyrical, physical and moving investigation of mortality, connection and our earthly attachments. Taking us on a journey that spans modern day concerns to ancient mythologies,  the piece asks what it is to hold on when everything around you is always going away?

PRESS

“GO! Playwright Aaron Henne’s play is an evocative riff on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, cunningly fashioned by director Ron Sossi into a surreal, tour de force fantasia of ghosts, dreams and metaphors. “

- LA Weekly

“Theatre Critic's Choice :The Odyssey Theatre's resident Koan Ensemble transforms the ancient Greek myth about Orpheus's unsuccessful attempt to retrieve his wife Eurydice from the underworld into a stirring meditation on the aching inevitability and finality of death…gripping images and sounds.”

LA CITY BEAT

"...an imaginative and aesthetically lovely piece awash with indelible
imagery and cerebral depth."
